Run from the tractor seat

Andrew built Harris Contracting around a simple idea: the person who quotes your job should be the one in the paddock doing it. The crew plants, mows, rakes, bales, chops and carts, and the trucks carry it wherever it needs to go.

What farmers say

Example reviews from the demo. Google reviews will be connected once the Harris Contracting profile is live.

★★★★★
Andrew and the crew did our whole first cut this season. Tight bales, wrapped properly, and they left the gateways tidier than they found them.
Mark T. Dairy farmer, Hinds
★★★★★
Booked maize silage late and they still fitted us in. The chop quality was spot on and the stack was rolled and covered before the rain came through.
Sarah M. Dairy farmer, Rakaia
★★★★★
Had them cart bales up from Southland. Turned up when they said they would, load was strapped right, price was fair. That is all you can ask.

Common questions

The things farmers ask us most before booking. Anything else, ring Andrew on 027 318 8798.

What areas do you work in?

We are based at 23 Bryant Street, Tinwald, Ashburton, and do our contracting work across Mid Canterbury. Our general and livestock transport runs South Island wide.

What services do you offer?

Grass baleage, grass silage, chopped silage and maize silage, precision planting, straw and hay, plus general transport and livestock transport.

Are you taking maize silage contracts for the 2026 season?

Yes. We are contracting now for the 2026 season. Ring Andrew on 027 318 8798 to lock your paddocks in. Planting and the maize contract can be booked together, so one call does both.

When should I book baleage?

Book early for the first cut, or ring mid-season to top up the stack before winter. We bale when the moisture is right, not when the calendar says so.

Do you make square or round bales?

Both. We make tight grass baleage in squares or rounds that holds its feed value through winter. For straw and hay we run three high density big square balers.

What happens if the weather window is tight?

When the weather window is tight we bale under lights rather than lose the crop.

Can you do grass silage on remote or awkward country?

Yes. For grass silage, remote and awkward country is fine. Talk to us about the block before you rule it out.

Can you cart bales, chop or freight?

Yes. We cart bales, fine chop off the chopper and general freight, South Island wide. One truck load or a full season of cartage, ring Andrew with the job and the dates.

Who do I call?

Ring Andrew on 027 318 8798 for bookings, silage, planting and general transport. Ring Logan on 022 140 6059 for baling and livestock transport. Bronwyn looks after the admin side, so contact Andrew for bookings.

How do I get a plan for my season?

Ring the person who runs the job, or email us with your rough hectares and timing, and we will come back with a plan.

Are you safety prequalified?

Yes. We are prequalified through Site Safe New Zealand with SiteWise Gold status for 2026/27, with a score of 94%, assessed on 29 September 2026. We are also a member of Rural Contractors New Zealand.

Who will be working on my farm?

A small, hands-on team. You will see the same people on your place from the first paddock to the last load, and Andrew stays close to every job from the first quote through to the finished stack.
